The Earth's crust is its outer layer, made out of rock. This rock came from outer space when our planet was formed.

Rocks are made out of materials from the earth that are not living things. This means that objects like shells or bones cannot be rocks, because they come from animals.
Rocks are also made naturally. This means that man-made objects cannot be rocks. For example, a brick may seem like a rock, and it is made out of rocks, but it cannot be a rock because it is man-made. |
